It appears the state has taken over the official death issues from the local coroner who was no doubt overwhelmed by the disaster. The floating numbers for the Joplin Tornado are apparently over. (UPDATED 6/21) This from KMBC that lists 155 dead, zero missing.
From the Joplin Globe: LIST: Dept. of Public Safety calls for assistance in ID-ing missing Andrea Spillars, Missouri Dept. of Public Safety spokesperson, has appealed to the public to assist in the process of accounting for the missing by reporting any information about those on the list to the state patrol’s found persons hot line at (417) 895-6868.
The Globe seems abit slow on the uptake here and looks to be more of a shopper newspaper at times (upbeat, pro business) ... talking "business" more than "community" now. They did report in today's online edition that the destroyed Home Depot is open and selling lumber in its parking lot and is building a temp facility for the much needed reconstruction.
