Game Changer: Chinese Navy invited to Pakistani Port

Pakistan has asked China to build a naval base at its south-western port of Gwadar and expects the Chinese navy to maintain a regular presence there, a plan likely to alarm both India and the US.

Up until now, China as resisted any extensive expansions that might alienate its neighbors, like India and Indonesia, as well as the US.  Gwandar is between Pakistan and Iran, virtually at the mouth of the Persian gulf.

Pakistan is taking delivery on 50 Chinese made fighter jets.  The invitation, if accepted would allow Chinese ships to be stationed and maintained far away from its mainland.... it's first out-of-area base and the move would increase suspicions that China has global interests in extending its military.
